July 3,2003 - 7PM @ Fernie Family Center Update presentation on Interior Health intended cuts to O.R. and other components of our hospital and health care. Provided by Doctors in Fernie. Florence Baturin, previously of Grace Medical Transportation Service provided transport for medical appointments outside of Fernie. Florence had to discontiue the service in Febuary,2003 because some people couldn't afford the very modest cost. Florence will present the service she provided to the Elk Valley and South Country Health Care Coalition. Recently other communities have recieved start-up money from interior health to create this service. We would ask Florence to provide a possible start-up costs and 2-day a week cost to transport people that cannot afford the cost to get to a doctors appointment outside of our community. We will be contacting Interior Health and requesting a similar service in our communities. For discussion and investigation: Laundry and 3 full time people are being lost and laundry could be processed in Cranbrook. Is this another example of Interior Health taking apart our Hospital one piece at a time.
