Recieved Gunnar's report on his trip to Vancouver Health Care Coalition
Gunnar reported that there was a number of speakers that talked on the changes in B.C.'s health care. A lot of cutbacks and hospital closures. Coalitions accross the province were organizing.

Elk Valley and South Country Health Care Coalition Membership sales (How do we
get membership sales going)
Mary Menduk is organizing volunteers for membership sales, phoning members about meetings.

It was decided that we will add the following its: 1. helpful links 2. meeting schedule agenda & minutes
3. issues that we are working on.

Mary Menduk is also contracting and organizing volunteers.

Establish a meeting schedule in Sparwood, Fernie, Elkford & South Country.
We realy didn't talk about this agenda item much.

Agenda for Jim Abbott, ,M.P. town hall meetings and schedule (please bring suggestions)
This item was mixed in discussions, possible suggestions:
1. Can Jim Abbott at a federal level have any impact on the high cost of perscription drugs.
2. We can present our concerns about the degrading health care in our area and ask him if there is anything he can do a federal level.
3. Does he have any influence with the Provincial of B.C.
4. Is there any programs we can take advantage of at a Federal level.

Identify issues that we should put our energy towards
Our hot issues are:
1. Fernie Operating Room possible closure.
2. Senior housing and care.
3. Threat from outbreaks of SARS in our area and the impact of moving the PUBLIC HEALTH UNIT to the Hospital.
4. Pharmacare - we need to know more about it.
5. Transportation for healthcare patients appointments outside of Fernie
6. Return of specialist to Fernie District Hospital
7. Lack o f care and compassion for people in need of health care.

South Country Issues
1. Keeping extended care patients in our communities..
2. Senior housing and care.
3. Dismissing hospital patients before they are ready.
4. Transportation for healthcare patients appointments.
